Mahidhara was a renowned brāhmaṇa scholar originally from Ahicchatra (in present-day Rohilkhand region), who later migrated and settled in the sacred city of Kashi (Varanasi) , a major center for Sanskrit learning at the time. He was a devotee of Hanuman and Narasimha, and the son of Bhanu Bhatta of the Vatsa gotra. Mahidhara is also famously known for his Vedadīpa commentary on the Mādhyandina saṃhitā of the Śuklayajurveda.
