Copy the modded file back into the .depot folder, overwriting the original. Immediately change the file permissions to 444 (Read-only). This prevents the game from overwriting your edits as soon as you start a race.
Navigate to the .../files/doc/ folder using your file manager. the character.2.dat file and paste it into a different folder (like "Documents" or "Downloads") on your device. For extra security, upload this copy to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.
