The period following the band's dissolution was shrouded in mystery and marked by a notoriously lengthy and expensive recording process. After years of delays, lineup changes, and a rumored $13 million production cost, the long-awaited Chinese Democracy was finally released on November 23, 2008. Featuring a completely revamped lineup around Axl Rose, the album was a dense, industrial-tinged hard rock record that divided fans and critics alike. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and received a platinum certification in the US. While it sold roughly 2.5 million copies worldwide, its lengthy and troubled creation meant it could never match the commercial or cultural impact of the band’s earlier work.

After the exhausting campaign for the Illusion albums, Guns N' Roses returned in 1993 with a curveball: an album of punk rock and glam covers titled "The Spaghetti Incident?" . The title was an inside joke referencing a food fight between Axl Rose and Steven Adler. Despite reaching number 4 on the Billboard 200 and earning a platinum certification, the album was met with a lukewarm reception from fans and critics, often being considered the weakest link in their discography. It proved to be the final studio album of the band's classic era. Following its release, guitarist Gilby Clarke was fired, and by the end of the decade, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum had all departed, leaving Axl Rose as the sole original member.

After being rejected by every major label, Geffen took a chance. Produced by Mike Clink, Appetite was a filthy, snarling snapshot of Los Angeles’ sleazy underbelly.

Para o colecionador, a é um mapa da decadência e redenção do rock. De Welcome to the Jungle a Perhaps , Axl Rose provou que, mesmo com intervalos de décadas, quando o Guns atira, poucas bandas ferem tão fundo.
