For nearly two millennia, the Vatican has been portrayed as the unshakable fortress of faith—a city-state where divine guidance trumps human fallibility. Yet, beneath the gilded frescoes of the Apostolic Palace and the marble corridors of St. Peter’s Basilica, a different story has often unfolded. If the first great "Scandal in the Vatican" involved Medici popes, murder, and the selling of indulgences, the second great scandal—the one history may well label —is a far more modern, yet equally labyrinthine, tale of financial fraud, espionage, secret London real estate, and a disgraced cardinal who became the richest man in Rome while wearing a Franciscan cord.

As one Vatican observer wrote: “The London property didn’t corrupt the Church. It merely revealed that the corruption was already there—hidden behind cassocks and canon law.”

The dominoes began to fall when Monsignor Alberto Perlasca, a straight-laced Vatican accountant, refused to sign off on the London deal. In 2019, he walked into the office of the Vatican’s newly created Auditor General, Libero Milone, and laid out the evidence. Soon after, Milone himself was forced to resign under mysterious circumstances—but not before copies of key documents left Vatican walls.

: Secret documents were leaked to journalists Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi for their books, Merchants in the Temple and Avarice .

[Pre-Vatican II Sunday] --> Strict fasting, Latin Mass, quiet contemplation, secular media avoided. [Post-Vatican II Sunday] --> English Mass, community socials, freedom to enjoy sports, movies, and music.

This birthed the era. Suddenly, acoustic guitars, tambourines, and upbeat melodies became part of the Sunday experience. This wasn't just a liturgical change; it influenced the music Catholics listened to at home. The rise of "Christian Contemporary Music" (CCM) can trace its roots back to this era of experimentation, as artists began blending spiritual themes with the popular sounds of the 60s and 70s. Cinema and the End of the "Legion of Decency"

The road to reform will be long and difficult, but it is essential that the Church takes concrete steps to address the crisis and restore the trust of its followers. Ultimately, the future of the Catholic Church depends on its ability to govern itself with integrity and transparency.

Life in the Vatican is a unique blend of the deeply sacred and the strictly disciplined, where daily existence is defined by ancient protocols and the spiritual mission of the Holy See. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, the "entertainment" here is largely centered on unparalleled access to world-class art, religious tradition, and historical exploration.

The Scandal in The Vatican 2 has highlighted the need for comprehensive reform within the Catholic Church. Many have called for greater transparency and accountability within the Vatican's financial dealings and for stronger mechanisms to prevent corruption and abuse of power.
